2. Overview
This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal data when you use linuxgamebench.com.
3. Minimum Age
You must be at least 16 years old to use Linux Game Bench. Users under 16 require parental consent. By registering, you confirm that you are at least 16 years old or have parental consent.
4. Hosting
Our website is hosted on a server in Germany. When you visit our website, the following data is automatically stored in server log files:
- IP address (anonymized after 7 days)
- Date and time of request
- Page/file accessed
- Browser type and version
- Operating system
- Referrer URL
Legal basis: Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) to ensure operation and security of the website.
Retention: 7 days, then automatically deleted.
5. User Account
You can create a user account. The following data is processed:
- Email address (required)
- Username (required, publicly visible)
- Password (stored only as a secure bcrypt hash, never in plain text)
- Registration date
- Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) (optional) - if enabled, a secret key is stored
Legal basis: Contract performance (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) - the account is required to upload and manage benchmarks.
Retention: Until account deletion by you.
6. Benchmark Data
When you upload benchmarks, the following data is publicly stored:
- Hardware information: GPU, CPU, RAM, motherboard
- Software information: operating system, kernel version, Mesa/driver version
- Game: name, Steam App ID, resolution, graphics settings
- Performance data: FPS, frametimes, stutter metrics
Note: This data is technical in nature and does not contain personal information such as names or email addresses.
Legal basis: Consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR) through active upload.
Retention: Permanent. You can delete individual benchmarks via "My Benchmarks". Upon account deletion, your benchmarks are anonymized (see Section 13).
7. Screenshots
You can upload screenshots to your benchmarks. The following applies:
- Screenshots are stored on our server
- You can mark screenshots as public or private
- Only gaming-related screenshots are allowed
Automated content review: Screenshots are automatically checked for inappropriate content by an AI system (image recognition model) during upload. The AI independently decides whether a screenshot is accepted or rejected. Since AI systems can make mistakes, please contact us via email if your upload was incorrectly rejected.
Legal basis: Consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR) through active upload.
Retention: Until deletion by you or upon account deletion (then permanently deleted).
8. Comments
You can post comments on benchmarks. The following is stored:
- Your comment text
- Your username (publicly visible)
- Time of creation

Retention: Until deletion by you or upon account deletion (then permanently deleted).
9. Direct Messages
You can send direct messages to other users. The following is stored:
- Message content
- Sender and recipient
- Timestamp
Legal basis: Consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR) through active sending.
Retention: Until deletion by you or upon account deletion (then permanently deleted).
10. Cookies
We only use technically necessary cookies:
- Session cookie: Keeps you logged in. Deleted when you close the browser or after 30 days.
We do not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or analytics tools like Google Analytics.
Legal basis: Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) - necessary for website functionality.
11. Email Communication
We send emails for:
- Email address verification upon registration
- Password reset upon your request
- Notifications about comments and messages (if enabled)
Emails are sent via Resend (Resend, Inc., USA). Resend is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
Legal basis: Contract performance (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
12. No Sharing with Third Parties
Your personal data (email, IP address) is not sold or shared with third parties for advertising purposes. Data is only shared:
- With the email service provider Resend (see above)
- When legally required (e.g., government requests)
13. Account Deletion
You can delete your account at any time in your account settings. Upon account deletion:
- Permanently deleted: Email address, username, password, 2FA data, screenshots, comments, direct messages, likes, achievements, saved profiles
- Anonymized and retained: Technical benchmark data (FPS, hardware specifications) - for statistical purposes
The anonymization of benchmark data is in accordance with Art. 17(3)(d) GDPR (scientific and statistical purposes).
14. Your Rights
You have the following rights at any time:
- Access (Art. 15 GDPR): Request information about data stored about you
- Rectification (Art. 16 GDPR): Correct inaccurate data
- Erasure (Art. 17 GDPR): Delete your data ("right to be forgotten")
- Restriction (Art. 18 GDPR): Restrict processing of your data
- Data portability (Art. 20 GDPR): Export your data in a machine-readable format
- Objection (Art. 21 GDPR): Object to processing of your data
- Withdraw consent (Art. 7(3) GDPR): Withdraw consent at any time with effect for the future

We implement technical and organizational measures:
- HTTPS encryption for all connections
- Passwords are hashed with bcrypt (never stored in plain text)
- Optional Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) with TOTP
- Regular software updates
- Access restrictions to server data

We reserve the right to update this Privacy Policy to comply with legal requirements or changes to our service. The current version is always available on this page.
